National Girlfriends Day

Did you know that August 1^st is National Girlfriend Day?  So, what is the significance of this day?  In an article I read, this is a day set aside each year to encourage women across the United States to get together and celebrate their special bond of friendship.

Girlfriends fall in many categories.  For instances, I have girlfriends that I grew up with, others I have met along life’s journey while in school, church or the workplace. If I were going to celebrate this day, I would celebrate the girlfriends that I consider my BFF’s or “my ride or die girls”.  Those ladies, and you know who you are, have been there for me.  They’ve given me an encouraging word when I needed it and warned me when I couldn’t see I was heading in the wrong direction.  We’ve laughed together, cried together and worked together to build a lasting friendship.  Do we always agree on everything?  Of course not.  But we have learned how to respect each other’s opinion.  Of course, if my opinion is the right opinion, I’ve learned to pray for them—LOL.

Gems, I encourage you to celebrate those girlfriends in your life on August 1^st.  Tell them how special they are and how life is better when they are around. I assure you, they would love to hear it.
